If you like to visit the countries you visit in detail and do not have time problems, this route is for you!
In fact, our travel route for our Balkans tour was: Macedonia > Albania > Bosnia and Herzegovina > Croatia > Serbia > Macedonia > Kosovo. However, in this article, we will only talk about the Macedonia route in order to limit the subject.
I don't know if you have noticed that we stopped in Macedonia again just before Kosovo on our way back, because there are serious problems between Serbia and Kosovo since Kosovo is separated from Serbia. Even when vehicles with Kosovo licence plates enter Serbia, they hide the country names of their licence plates. We witnessed many such vehicles on the road. Therefore, you cannot pass directly to Kosovo through Serbia. Of course, you cannot pass to Serbia through Kosovo in the same way. But it would be more logical to deal with this issue under the title of "rent a car".
Returning to our topic, we travelled a route of about ~300 mile (or ~500 km) one way in total for Macedonia. Then we left the Albanian border. Actually, we left from the border crossing on the way to Struga, but you exit from the St. Naum monastery border crossing. For this reason, I have marked the St. Naum border crossing in the image. To understand why, you can take a look at this short article.

As I said, if you are going to rent a car from Skopje Airport and leave it at Ohrid Airport, your total distance to be travelled with this route will not exceed a maximum of ~300 mile (or ~500 km).
The most important point to be considered here is to check whether there is a flight to Ohrid Airport from the country you will come from to implement this plan in this way. There are usually flights to European countries.
However, if there is no flight from Ohrid Airport to your country, you will have to return to Skopje Airport by car. The distance from Ohrid to Skopje is about ~125 mile (or 200 km) and it will take 3-4 hours by car.
If we go back to our route, leaving Skopje Airport and proceeding as follows will allow you to reach many places to be seen step by step.
Skopje > Matka Canyon > Tetovo > Pirlepe > Bitola > Dolno Dupeni > Tsarev Dvor > National Park Galicica > St. Naum Monastery > Ohrid > Struga > Ohrid Airport /or/ Albania /or/ Return Skopje Airport
Macedonia Route
If you are going to rent a car from Ohrid Airport and leave it at Skopje Airport or if you are going to enter through Albania, this time you can adapt the opposite route for yourself.
How much time is required for this route?
Assuming that you have a hire or private car, without slowing down factors such as children etc:
Conclusion
If you plan to use public transport, you may need up to 14 days to visit the entire list. Or you can shorten the time by eliminating some regions.
I hope this short article will help you a little bit in determining your route. Nevertheless, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by e-mail from the "contact" section. I wish you a good and pleasant journey in advance..
